Adult Individual Counseling

Adult Individual Counseling (18 years old+)

Maybe you’ve been wrestling with the idea of whether to talk to a counselor or not for years. Just considering saying what you’re battling out loud might feel nerve wracking. The fact that you’re exploring options is a big step forward. You’re ready to start taking action and doing something about this. You’re ready to see some change take place.

“I’m really nervous about sharing all my junk with someone I don’t know. Could counseling actually work for me?”

I’ll never make you share more than you’re comfortable sharing. Also, everything in our meetings is confidential (except for a few specifics which we’ll talk about more before your first meeting). We’ll take our time getting to the root of what’s really going on. Counseling is about connection. I heard a quote once that said, “The thing that is worse than hurting is hurting alone.”

“I’ve tried everything. I think I may be beyond help at this point so how is counseling going to help?”

Counseling is about collaboration. It’s no longer just you focusing on this challenge. You will share your perspective from inside the struggle and then I can share my perspective from outside the struggle. Chances are, though, you aren’t the only one struggling with this and I’m willing to bet I’ve walked with someone else through something similar. When we’ve tried everything we know to do and we still feel like we aren’t progressing, maybe it’s time to let someone else in.

“I’m not sure I can afford years of intense counseling.”

You’re in charge here. If you want to meet only once or if you want to come every week, you get to choose. My goal for you is not to keep you in counseling forever. I often joke with my clients by saying, “My goal for you is that you never have to see me again!” Seriously though, I want you to be doing so well in your life, that we run out of stuff to talk about.

Now is the time to stop trying to do this alone. Let me join with you and help you find the peace and purpose you’re looking for.

I prefer an integrative approach to counseling. That's a really fancy way of saying, I like to use the best approach for YOU that actually works to help YOU get back to feeling like YOU again! Some common approaches I use are Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Narrative Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as well as other Person Centered techniques.
